Picking The Right Golf Shirt
The
right golf shirt can help you enjoy your time on the golf
course. When you step on the golf course whether it is with
your friends or by yourself, your attention should be focused on
your golf game. You want to be able to give all your
attention to getting the ball down the course in the shortest
possible strokes. What you should not have to worry about is your
golf shirt. That goes
without saying that we all want to look good, especially when we
are out with our friends.
Some golf courses have a more relaxed atmosphere where any old
T-shirt will do. However, any golf courses have a specific dress
code where they require specific clothing while on the course or in
the clubhouse. Aside from that, there are two major factors
that go into picking out a good golf shirt.
- The weather conditions on the golf course you will be playing
at.
- Is your golf shirt comfortable?
Golf Course Weather Conditions
One major factor for the type of golf shirt you choose should
depend on the weather conditions where you will be playing golf. If
the day is nice and warm, a good golf polo or short sleeve shirt is preferable.
However if you are sensitive to the sun or it is a little chilly
out, maybe a long sleeve golf
shirt or pullover is
more to your liking. There are also specially designed golf wind shirts that help to cut
down on how much you feel the wind without weighing you down or get
in the way like a jacket would.
Golf Shirt Comfort
Golf shirts come in a variety of sizes and colors from many
different manufacturers. Some of the larger manufacturers have a
greater variety and also shirts made from good quality materials.
There are conservative style golf shirts in basic colors and design
patterns and there are also some stylish and bright colored golf
shirts if that is more your style.
Finding the right golf shirt that will help you enjoy your golf
game may take some time and some personal testing. I know that
sounds more complicated that it should, but bear with me.
Some questions you should ask yourself when looking for
a golf shirt are:
Do you sweat easily and a lot? – If so, maybe a
golf shirt made of a good “wicking” material that pulls
perspiration away from the body helping to keep you cool and
comfortable.
What is your favorite color? – Having clothes
that reflect what we like helps to keep us relaxed and we all know
we can use some relaxation while on the golf course.
Are you allergic to any golf shirt materials? –
There are some people that cannot wear cotton which is used in many
golf polo’s and short sleeve shirts. Knowing this before you
buy a shirt will save you a lot of scratching in the future.
How does the golf shirt feel? – This is the
most fundamental question when picking out any piece of clothing.
Try it on and see how it feels. You are going to be
wearing the golf shirt for a few hours at least, so it should be
comfortable. Is the shirt confining or tight in places?
Take a practice swing from start to finish and see if the shirt
gets in the way or binds you anywhere. This will tell you if
you need to try a different size or even a different style.
Do you like mock golf
shirts where the color is snug around your neck or is a golf
polo more your style?
Remember, A golf shirt that is both comfortable for you to wear,
looks good while at the same time is made for the weather you are
in, will allow you to be comfortable while playing your golf
game. If you are uncomfortable because of how your shirt
feels or whether you think you look good in the shirt, your golf
game will suffer. You will not be able to focus your
attention on your golf swing and then once you have a bad swing,
you start a vicious cycle that can prevent you from enjoying time
on the course playing a great game of golf.
