Although golf for beginners can seem slightly overwhelming, it is much easier once you know a few simple rules. Knowing the correct apparel to wear and the basics of golf are the most important rules to learn.

The correct golf apparel

Most golf courses have a dress code that all golfers must follow. It is important to know what the dress code is at the course you are visiting. For most courses, a collared shirt, such as a cotton polo, and chinos are an acceptable outfit. The female dress standards also allow for chino skirts, and some course allow chino shorts for both sexes as well. More casual courses permit the wearing of denim; however, never wear denim to a golf course unless you know that it is acceptable there. Shoes are also part of the dress code at many golf courses. Most golf shoes have some type of spike or cleats on the bottom. Metal spikes are usually not allowed at golf courses, so only wear shoes with soft spikes.

Golf basics

The best way to learn the basics to playing golf is to take a few lessons from a golf professional. Most beginning lessons go over the different types of golf clubs and the basic rules of play. The goal of golf is to get your ball into the hole in the lowest amount of swings. Each hole has a par, which is the number of swings it takes on average to get the ball into the hole. You want your final score either at par or under it. There are 18 holes on a full golf course, and all holes are played in order. You choose to play only nine holes, but you must still play them in order.

Learning the proper etiquette and how to play golf is a fun process. After you get the basics down, there are other minor rules to adopt. You are sure to swing and look like a pro in no time!
