Major Tournaments and Their Locations

There are four major golf tournaments in the professional golf world. They are known as the Major Championships, and all of these tournaments are for men only. The major tournaments and their locations are important for every golf fan to know, so here is a brief description of these major golfing events.

The Masters Tournament

The Masters Tournament is held every April at the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. This tournament is the first major golf tournament held every year, and it is always held during the first full week of April. Traditionally, the winner of the tournament receives a green jacket, and this jacket is then returned at the end of the year.

The United States Open

The United States Open is another annual golf tournament, and the location of the tournament varies from year to year. It is held every June, and the final round is played on Father's Day. The Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland, is hosting the event in 2011. The USĀ Open has a rich history, beginning with the first tournament in 1895 at the Newport Country Club in Newport, Rhode Island.

The British Open

The British Open is the oldest of the four major golf tournaments, beginning with the first tournament in 1860. While the official mane of the tournament is the Open Championship, it is commonly known as the British Open. The British Open is held the weekend after the third Friday in July. The course is always in Scotland or England, and the Royal St. George's Golf Club in Kent County, England, is hosting the event in 2011.

The PGA Championship

The PGA Championship is the last major golf tournament of the year, and it is held every August. The tournament dates from 1916, and its location varies from year to year. The Atlanta Athletic Club in Atlanta, Georgia, is hosting the event in 2011.

There are four major golf tournaments that occur annually between April and August. The Masters is the only tournament that is held at the same golf course every year, but all of these tournaments have a storied history that still enthralls golf enthusiasts today.
