Storing Your Golf Shirts for the Winter

If you love golf, then you know a good quality golf shirt is expensive. Since golf is best played in warm weather, golf shirts often sit abandoned in the closet all winter. Avoid moths holes and stains caused by dust and mold by properly storing your golf shirts for the winter.

Wash containers

The first thing to do is prepare your storage container. Wash the container with warm water and a mild disinfectant. Once it is clean, dry it thoroughly. This protects your clothes from dust and mold that are lingering in the container.

Wash and fold

Wash or dry clean all of your golf shirts. For cotton shirts, do not wash them in warm water; they could shrink and lose their shape. If you wash your golf shirts at home, consider pressing them with a warm iron. Once they are clean, neatly fold and stack them. It also helps if you organize the stacks by color.

Pest control

To protect your clothes from pests, use cedar sachets or balls. If you use cedar sachets, place one or two in the bottom of the storage container. If you are using cedar balls, place a few in the bottom of the container, then save the other half to use as you are filling the container.

Fill it up

Neatly stack your folded golf shirts in the container in such a way that they are not wrinkled. If you are using cedar balls, place a few balls inside of the container when it is half full. Continue filling the container to the top, then place the remainder of the cedar balls on top. Do not overfill the container; the lid could open. If the container you are using is opaque, use a sticky label with "golf shirts" written on it.

If you are limited for space, consider using storage bags. When selecting a storage bag for clothing, choose one that is sealed airtight with a vacuum cleaner. Now the only thing you have to do is wait for the next golf season.
